i have a 7020 that was fine yesterday morning, and dead last night, without doing a thing to it

ive replaces the power supply with another one that i know is good but its still the same

ive disconnected all the HDD etc and nothing, not even a reply when trying to use dreamup

when the power is disconnected, after about 20 seconds the orange display will flash twice, as if the last charge in the power supply fails, this is on both supplies that ive checked and both are fine

so, this tells me something on the main board has packed in

would anyone know where i begin?

cheers for looking

ive put it one quite a few m8 yep, reason being, my kids are up this weekend and ive no telly at all for them to watch as this box was acting as my server, some sites get more visitors than others, but not everyone knows the inner workings of the actual electronics

ive exhausted all of the possible testing that i know of to eliminate what the problem could be, and have still got no firther in getting it going again

the more people that see the problem, the more chance i have of getting help to fix it, and as most forums dont allow links to other forums of a similar nature, the best way to get more people to look at it is to post it on as many boards as possible, then, even people who may not actually know how to fix it, may have seen it on a different forum, and copy the information over

but thanks for looking :)

Did you try DreamUP with Null mopdem cable or network cable connection?

the box is totally dead, no display, no reply to dreamup, nothing

its as if the power supply has blown

on tuesday im going to see if one of the tech guys in a workshop in devon will take a look at it, i have a donor receiver for any parts that are needed, but i just cannot work out what could have happened, as it was fine when i went out, and dead when i got back

hi M8 if when you switch on the display is not come on you have a hardware prob the best thing is to see a expert
if when power up your box and the display is come on we could do something as i said above the bootloader could be corrupted...let us know how you doing M8..

you said you live in Devon if you are stack and want to send to me i will do it for you..i am living in London so is not very far from you..

it may help next time, but if you don't run the dream via decent surge protector, then you should think about getting one...a spike could have knocked out the power supply or the switch has gone...but no lights, then its likey a spike that killed it

Digidude is a long time Satellite installer and well known on the Satellite scene for his work with Dream and TM boxes. He has tried a replacement power supply and no joy. Must be a board issue?

i know the power supplies are fine, but i only have limited test equipment in my house

i have no way of testing electrolytic capacitors, so when i suspect a power supply fault, ill replace them all as standard, this helps other components last longer as well, but i have no way of testing the SMD mini cans on the main board

i now know its something on the main board as when its disconnected, the power supplies run fine, but once connected something is causing the power supply to shut down

ive checked all SMD zener diodes, replaced the 2 220uf electrolytics near the mainboard connector, as well as the 220uf SMD electrolytic for the tuner

but still no luck

but i can deffo say its NOT a power supply fault :(

the fault was an SMD electrolytic capacitor on the main board :)

a quick check of the cans with a proper meter identified it in less than 90 seconds

took the SMD can off, replaced it with a standard radial one (at a cost of 9p) and thought sod it, while i got the iron out, i replaced and upgraded the main caps in the power supply as well (at a cost of £2.60)

and now all running smoothly again
